In French Polynesia the Institut Louis-Malardé (ILM) has been working for over a decade to protect the people of Tahiti from mosquito borne diseases like Dengue, Chikungunia, Zika, and Elephantitis. Using the sterile male technique they have successfully suppressed two species of biting mosquitoes on one islet in Tetiaroa, and are expanding these efforts to the main island of Tahiti in the coming months.
