The 29th April marks the 75th anniversary of Operation Manna, the humanitarian food drop into occupied Netherlands at the end of World War II. Much of the Netherlands was suffering from a terrible famine known as “Hongerwinter” or Hunger Winter with many thousands facing starvation. The British launched Operation Manna to drop food packages from Avro Lancaster bombers from as low as 50 feet.
