Scientists in northern Germany have discovered that brown rats are hunting and eating bats at urban bat hibernation sites, sometimes even catching them mid-air. Using infrared cameras and thermal imaging between 2020 and 2024, researchers saw rats either ambushing resting bats or leaping to grab flying ones.
