Vern Gosdin retired from performing in the 1970s and went on to operate a glass company in Georgia. By 1976, he resigned a record contract. Thankfully he returned to country music, or else his hit song “Chiseled In Stone” wouldn’t have come to fruition. The song won the CMA Award for song of the year in 1989 and earned a Grammy nod!
