This footage of the French Quarter was shot by THNOC founder L. Kemper Williams in about 1940. Williams and his wife, Leila, were leaders in the effort to save and restore the Vieux Carré after the city planned large-scale demolition in the 1930s. They bought and restored several properties in the heart of the Quarter, including THNOC’s house museum, the Williams Residence, which they acquired 1938.
