“Buckwheat threshing with traditional flail” In November, a farming family who attempts to grow Soba (buckwheat) with good old-fashioned farming, threshed buckwheat with traditional method and tools as usual in Shintoku, Eastern Hokkaido. Buckwheat was harvested with hand using sickles in mid-September, gathered into shocks called “Shimadate” and sundried to make grains dry, ripe and rich flavoured.
