Kaiping (simplified Chinese: 开平; traditional Chinese: 開平), alternately romanized in Cantonese as Hoiping, [a] in local dialect as Hoihen, is a county-level city in Guangdong Province, China. It is located in the western section of the Pearl River Delta and administered as part of the prefecture-level city of Jiangmen.

Kaiping Diaolou and Villages (开平碉楼), located in Kaiping (Hoi Ping), Jiangmen, Guangdong, China, has been collected in the 31st UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since June, 2007, from which it became the first world heritage site about overseas Chinese in the whole China.

The Kaiping Diaolou, multi-storied buildings scattered around Kaiping County, were listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2007 as China's 35th World Heritage Site.

Kaiping (开平; Kāipíng in Mandarin, Hoi1pen6 in the local dialect) is a pastoral area in Guangdong, China, full of rice fields and old-fashioned villages, that is known for its hundreds of diāolóu (碉楼).

The Kaiping Diaolous and Villages are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must see in China for anyone visiting the Guangdong province. They are easily reached from Guangzhou or Macau (keep in mind you need a China visa if coming from Macau) or, as I did, from Foshan.

Kaiping is a city in southern China, in the Pearl River Delta. It’s known for the diaolou (fortified towers) that dot the nearby rural villages. Many of these well-preserved towers, including Kaiping Diaolou and Jingjiangli Village, are a fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles.
