Mudslides block Interstate 90, thousands lose power, and residents wade through waist-deep water as torrential rain continues to pound the region

Up to a foot of rain has already fallen in the last few days, and more is on the way amid major flooding in Washington state.

Flooding has blocked almost all routes east from the Pacific Northwest.

As floodwaters swelled around Washington, threatening low-lying communities along rivers, Gov. Bob Ferguson signed a statewide emergency declaration on Wednesday. Ferguson says he’ll also seek an expedited emergency declaration from the federal government in response to the flooding,

An estimated 100,000 Washington residents could face evacuation orders because of rapidly rising floodwaters, Gov. Bob Ferguson’s office said Wednesday afternoon.
