Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a new game set in the titular Old Republic, which existed thousands of years before the Star Wars films. Game Awards host Geoff Keighley described it as a single-player RPG, directed by Casey Hudson, the director of 2003's Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series.
Why have one Star Wars game announcement at an edition of The Game Awards when you can have two? Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a podracing (and speeder racing) game from Fuse Games, a studio established in 2023 by former Burnout and Need for Speed developers. It's scheduled to hit PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2026.

Casey is back at Star Wars. The Game Awards has just shared the premiere trailer for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. The game is being directed by Casey Hudson, the original director for the KOTOR games as well as Mass Effect. Shortly after the trailer’s reveal, Casey Hudson shared more information on Twitter:
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is described as "a new single-player narrative-driven action RPG and spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ." Casey Hudson, formerly of BioWare and the game director of the original KOTOR, is leading it at Arcanaut Studios.
The first official Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic trailer (which you can watch above) came in the shape of a short cinematic teaser. Clocking in at just under two minutes, the footage shows off impressively detailed environments, before a figure piloting a ship lands on a planet.
Expected to see the 'Knights of the Old Republic' remake at the Game Awards tonight? Too bad: have a *brand new* game instead.
