Laurent Mekies is just starting his first weekend as Red Bull team principal, and he already sees where changes are needed to get the team back on track. Red Bull announced Mekies as Christian Horner’s replacement after his sudden departure,

French engineer Mekies, previously team principal at Red Bull ’s sister F1 team Racing Bulls, has taken over from Horner and is at the helm this weekend for the Belgian Grand Prix. Mekies previously enjoyed a near-decade stint at Toro Rosso, the old name for Red Bull’s sister team, and also has experience to his name at Ferrari and the FIA.

Mekies takes charge with Red Bull fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, 50 points down on second-placed Ferrari but a whopping 288 behind runaway championship leaders McLaren. Verstappen is third in the Drivers’ standings, 68 points behind Oscar Piastri.
