Two decades after ousting their king, Nepalese protesters want him back - ‘I was in the protests that took away monarchy, but I was mistaken’

Thousands of supporters greeted Nepal’s former king in capital Kathmandu on Sunday and demanded his abolished monarchy be reinstated and Hinduism brought back as a state religion.

Nepal's former king Gyanendra Shah was welcomed back to Kathmandu on Sunday by thousands of supporters who have been staging pro-monarchy demonstrations in the Himalayan republic. Shah's supporters cheered and waved Nepal's flag,

Protests in 2006 forced the king to give up his authoritarian rule, and two years later the parliament voted to abolish the monarchy.
