Police are investigating the death of a woman experiencing homelessness as a possible homicide after her injured body was discovered at Santa Monica Beach.

The Santa Monica Police Department is asking for help solving the suspicious death of a woman discovered on the Santa Monica Beach who was discovered with significant injuries to her face. According to SMPD,

A woman was found dead Monday near a lifeguard tower on a Santa Monica beach, prompting an investigation. Officers responded around 7:05 a.m. to the 1500 block of Ocean Front Walk after city beach maintenance workers reported an unresponsive woman near the waterline,

The woman, found in a sleeping bag at about 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, had visible facial injuries, Santa Monica police said in a news release. Firefighters pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said. She was found near the waterline. She has not been identified, police said. Her cause of death remains under investigation.
