The city’s Neighborhood Safety Department and the violence prevention organizations have been under growing scrutiny because of lawsuits, allegations of mismanagement and heated arguments at city hall.

After a lengthy and sometimes heated discussion, the Minneapolis City Council voted Thursday to indefinitely postpone a proposal to have Hennepin County temporarily oversee two of the city’s violence intervention programs.

Minneapolis City Council members are proposing to move some of the city’s violence prevention programming to Hennepin County, having lost confidence in the embattled neighborhood safety department (NSD) at city hall.
