California Gov. Gavin Newsom has expanded the focus of a special session he called to pass legislation safeguarding the state's progressive policies ahead of Republican President-elect Donald Trump's return to office.
As wildfires caused at least two dozen deaths and billions of dollars in damages, some social media users accused California Gov. Gavin Newsom of slashing money to prevent fires. Many posts including by Fox News stated Newsom cut about $100 million in fire prevention from the state’s budget months before the Los Angeles fires.
Fed-up residents have reignited a petition initially started nearly a year ago, which demands Gov. Gavin Newsom deploy state and county officers “to assist Vallejo with its spiraling crime problem.” “As a resident of Vallejo, CA, I am deeply concerned about the safety of my community,” wrote Paula Conley, the petition starter.
Governor Newsom issued an order protecting LA tenants from eviction for hosting fire survivors until March 8, 2025. He is also aiding fire recovery with tax relief and measures against price gouging.
The campaign organizer said waiting longer to recall Newsom would have "massive detrimental effects on the state."
Newsom grinned ear-to-ear and did an effective shoulder shimmy while trying to calm residents’ fears over the LA fires.
Newsom blasted Johnson for saying that "conditions" should be placed on aid for California's ongoing fire emergency.

It is the strongest response Newsom has made so far in the week since the fires first erupted in the Los Angeles area.
