NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is asking residents to voluntarily reduce power use as dangerous cold temperatures set into the state. TVA is encouraging the power reduction between 6-10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

TVA set an all-time peak demand record of 35,319 megawatts at 9 a.m. Eastern time, when the average temperature across its seven-state service area was 11 degrees.

The TVA has asked customers to reduce their energy usage on Thursday and Friday in response to high power demands during this week’s cold snap. According to a release from Huntsville Utilities, the curtailment requests are from 6am to 10am Thursday (Feb 20) and Friday (Feb 21).
