國際統一私法協會是獨立政府間組織，目前擁有來自五大洲的65個成員國。組織的宗旨在於研究各國和國家集團間尤以商法為重的私法現代化、協調與統一之需求與方法，並制定統一法律文獻、原則和規則以達成上述目標。
