As Texas hurtles toward a flashpoint on a GOP effort to redraw congressional districts, California Democrats are answering with a plan of their own.

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom laid out a plan Thursday to redraw congressional maps to gain Democrat seats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. He called for a Nov. 4 special election to put the maps before state voters. “We have got to meet fire with fire,” Newsom said.
