A city councilor and two state lawmakers representing South Boston are denouncing the “disgusting” desecration of American flags at the Korean War Memorial and a military statue Tuesday night.

Seven years, four months, and six days. That is the length of time the Boston Police Department allowed an internal affairs (IA) case to linger before finally disciplining an officer accused of lying on the job and numerous other infractions.

With the New Year approaching, Boston leaders touted the city’s low crime rates in 2025 and pledged to redouble their public safety efforts. While gun violence has increased slightly this year after reaching a historic low in 2024, Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said the numbers are still a significant accomplishment.

Family members of a 15-year-old boy killed in a Dorchester crash that followed a Boston police pursuit have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city, state and several officers involved. The suit,

"Troy Winslow was robbed of his life and his endless potential," the lawsuit states. "The family continues to mourn the child he was and the man he would have become."

A Boston officer was dragged by a vehicle, leading to arrest of driver Avagadra Lipson, who faces multiple charges including assault and reckless driving.

The findings of the department’s internal affairs investigation on all three officers were disclosed by Boston police to the state’s POST Commission last month and posted to the agency’s website.
