Gov. Bob Ferguson has declared a statewide emergency in Washington in response to severe flooding affecting the region.
Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, on Wednesday, held a press briefing to announce he has requested a disaster declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to address widespread flooding across Western Washington after several days of near-record rainfall.
The situation is very dynamic, but we’re exceedingly grateful and thankful that our prayer has been answered,” the governor said.

Ferguson said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called him to confirm the FEMA request had been approved and discussed the state’s conditions amid ongoing flooding. According to Ferguson, Noem said short-term federal resources could be available.
