A 19-year-old pilot from the United States has been detained on an Antarctic island and charged by Chilean authorities, who say his flight to the frozen continent was unauthorized.

Intrepid explorer Ethan Guo hopes to raise a million dollars to donate to cancer research. His plans hit an obstacle in Chile.

Guo had planned to fly only over the city of Punta Arenas in southern Chile, but instead flew further south to King George Island.
