American Conference has appealed the outcome of the Michigan-Western Michigan game, asking the NCAA and College Football Playoff administrators to recognize the Broncos as the actual winner.
Western Michigan beat Monmouth before a crowd of more than 24,000 in Kalamazoo on Sept. 12. It was the largest crowd for a WMU home opener since 2017.
Monmouth lost 49-14 to Western Michigan on Saturday night in Kalamazoo. The home team had a controversial loss to Michigan last week.
Western Michigan released a statement in support of the formal action taken by the Mid-Atlantic Conference on Tuesday.
WMU president Russ Kavalhuna says he looked into if there was a way to appeal the result of the game, "but there is none."
Broc Lowry threw three touchdown passes, Jaylen Buckley ran for three scores, and Western Michigan defeated FCS-opponent Monmouth 49-14.
The MAC filed a formal NCAA appeal claiming the Western Michigan Broncos should be recognized as winners after a replay protocol error at Michigan.
