A pilot of an overloaded commuter plane appears to have been distracted by icy conditions and didn’t pay attention to his airspeed, leading to a crash that killed all 10 people onboard, the National Transportation Safety Board concluded Thursday.

Questions remain after a deadly crash near Chandler Municipal Airport as investigators begin piecing together what went wrong.

The plane is believed to have taken off from the Chandler airport shortly before it crashed into a commercial storage yard.

This past May, a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air medevac plane took off from Roswell, New Mexico, and headed west to the town of Ruidoso to pick up a patient. It shouldn’t have been a challenging flight for the two pilots and two nurses aboard.

The plane, a Piper J3C-65, struck the house in Fulshear, Texas, around 6:45 a.m. on Monday, the authorities said. Its pilot was in serious condition on Tuesday, a hospital spokesman said.

The plaintiffs allege they now suffer from PTSD after witnessing the crash that killed eight people and injured dozens more near Cottman Avenue on January 31, 2025.
