Nintendo is stepping further away from its original Switch console, with the company now planning to dedicate most of its attention to its successor. In a financial results briefing on Wednesday, Nintendo said that “going forward, we will shift our primary development focus to Nintendo Switch 2 and expand our business around this new platform.”

Nintendo raised its forecast for sales of the Switch 2 console in its current fiscal year as momentum for its new flagship console grows. The Japanese gaming giant said it now expects to sell 19 million units of the Switch in the fiscal year ending March 2026 versus a previous forecast of 15 million units.

The Switch 2 is the fastest-selling Nintendo system to date, breaking 10 million sales at a rate that apparently surprised company executive management.
