The LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark-3) is the new heavy-lift launch vehicle, which was used for placing CMS-03, which weighs about 4,410 kg and is a multi-band communication satellite, in GTO in a cost-effective manner.
This is the first time ISRO has put a satellite weighing more than 4,000 kg in the distant geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) from the Indian soil.
The LVM3 deployed the 9,700-pound (4,400-kilogram) CMS-03 into geostationary transfer orbit about 16 minutes after lifting off. It was the heaviest communications satellite ever launched to GTO from Indian soil, according to ISRO.
