Florida’s storied relationship with cigar making began in the early 1800s, when Spanish fishing fleets started bringing Cuban cigars to Key West. Shortly thereafter, cigar making took hold there.
Working with a rhythm perfected by years of repetition, Dorothy Burk unraveled a leaf of thin, light brown and silky smooth imported cigar tobacco and spread it onto the roller of a stripping machine.
