House Democrats largely oppose bill banning Medicaid funding for transgender treatments for minors, with only four crossing party lines in the 215-201 vote.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced new rules that restrict transgender minors' access to gender-affirming care.

Republicans in Congress are making a renewed push before the end of the year to pass major federal restrictions to gender-affirming care for trans minors.

The proposed regulations would bar medical providers who offer gender transition care to transgender youth from receiving Medicare or Medicaid funds.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is expected to announce a package of measures that would together ban gender-affirming care for minors. A press conference is set for 11 a.m. Thursday.

“Evidence shows sex-rejecting puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries are dangerous. Providers have an obligation to offer care grounded in evidence and to avoid interventions that expose young people to a lifetime of harm,” Christine said.

The GOP-controlled House passed a bill that would block Medicaid funds from being used for gender identity care to minors.
