PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Transit experts are warning that proposed service cuts to SEPTA could result in approximately 275,000 additional vehicles on local roadways, a number just shy of Pittsburgh's population.

For decades, local sports fans have used the Broad Street Line and other SEPTA services to get down to Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers games.

With SEPTA's deadline to avoid a "death spiral" hours away, a Pa. House Committee did not approve of a transit bill that was passed by the Senate.

And, the MTA reported losing an estimated $690 million in unpaid fares and tolls in 2022. They were able to force down subway fare evasion by 26% between 2022 and 2024 through a number of measures, including updating fare gates at some transit stations and adding additional enforcement officers.

Pennsylvania’s GOP-controlled Senate also advanced a $47.6 billion state budget for 2025-26 that holds spending flat, but Democrats oppose the plan.
