This year has already brought massive changes to the Overwatch roster, and next season adds two reworks of longtime problem heroes.
Doctrine, Hero 54, a new Support character, will join the roster in Season 5, bringing "Overwatch's ultimate vampire fantasy" and completing the Reign of Talon story. He manipulates lifeforce with his scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones, providing speed boosts while also damaging enemies.
Overwatch Season 5 launches October 6, 2026 with new vampire Support hero Doctrine, whose unique Infuse mechanic upgrades any ability on demand. Sombra is switching from Damage to Support -- only the second Overwatch 2-era role change -- while Roadhog gets a full kit overhaul.
After years of complaints, Overwatch is finally reworking two of its veteran heroes. Announced during BlizzCon 2026’s opening ceremony, both Roadhog and Sombra will be receiving major reworks, with Sombra pivoting to being a support hero and Roadhog undergoing changes to make him more of a team player.
