A funeral was held Thursday for NYPD Det. Didarul Islam, one of the victims killed in Monday's shooting at a Midtown office building.

Islam, 36, has been hailed since his death as a doting father, a generous neighbor and a shining example of the best of the NYPD. An immigrant from Bangladesh, he was a four-year veteran of the force, and a married father of two young boys. His wife is due with their third child next month. Islam will be laid to rest in New Jersey.

Roughly 15,000 mourners gathered for the funeral of NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who was killed in an office building shooting while working an off-duty security detail.
